Bid for Royal Charter status for twin towns

A FISHGUARD and Goodwick town councillor has unveiled bold plans to launch a campaign to get a Royal Charter granted for the twin towns as a belated thanks to the valiant peasant women who famously thwarted the last invasion of Britain in 1797. When an invading French army landed near Fishguard they ended up having to surrender to a group of local women armed with pitchforks led by the inspirational Jemima Nicholas. According to legend, the bedraggled invaders were fooled into thinking the women’s red blouses were a mass force of advancing redcoats. A FISHGUARD teenager has been given a key role in helping develop hockey in Wales. Fifteen-year-old Amelia Davies has been chosen as one of six hockey ambassadors to sit on a national Hockey Wales ambassador focus group.
